MedCura Health provides affordable, accessible, quality primary care services to ethnically diverse patients and their families. As a grassroots medical option for the underserved and uninsured, MedCura Health saves the county and state money by providing primary care to those who would typically seek help in an emergency room setting for non-emergency problems. MedCura Health continues to be the healthcare safety net for Cobb, Dekalb, Fulton and Rockdale Counties County

“Service at MedCura Health Clinic exceeded my expectations. The people here were very nice and friendly. The intake specialists and the nurses were helpful and polite. The doctor appeared to be very knowledgeable and was able to explain in layman terms my diagnosis. I feel very comfortable at this clinic and plan to return in the future.”

Our History

MedCura Health (formerly Oakhurst Medical Centers) provides affordable, accessible, and quality primary care services to ethnically diverse patients and their families through its thirteen practice site locations. As a grassroots medical option for the underserved and uninsured, MedCura saves the county and state money by providing primary care to those who would typically seek help in an emergency room setting for non-emergency problems. It continues to be the healthcare safety net it was when it was originally founded in 1978 in DeKalb County in the Oakhurst community.

The practice was created by Oakhurst resident and Decatur Mayor Emeritus Elizabeth Wilson (1993-1998) out of her strong advocacy for the elderly and poor residents in her community and the disparity in healthcare services. The medical center grew quickly from virtually no funding and one or two staff volunteers to a budget of $6 million and a multi-disciplined staff including doctors, nurses, social workers, a nutritionist, a contract dentist and an ophthalmologist. Its impact on the community was significant, providing preventive care to hundreds of medically underserved area residents.

The community then underwent revitalization and many patients moved to the Stone Mountain area. As a result, in 1998, the clinic relocated to the City of Stone Mountain where it continues today. Its expanded facility and services enabled the center to serve even more residents in need while continuing care for many existing patients. Demand continued to grow and the center was renovated in 2010 to a total of 13,500 square feet. The new space accommodated advanced diagnostic equipment such a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine producing 4D images – and space was added to specialty services and other areas, all much needed.

Additional locations were added and new services and programs were developed over the years to meet the growing demands and needs of DeKalb and Rockdale communities. As a result of seemingly endless demand, under the leadership of the board of directors and CEO, Jeff Taylor, Oakhurst built a new main facility with 27,000 square feet that was completed in November 2013.

In March of 2020, the administrative offices were relocated from the 5582 Memorial Drive site to the newly renovated location at 770 Village Square Drive, providing much-needed space for our expanding clinical services.  In November 2020, MedCura Health reached another milestone by opening a new state-of-the-art facility at 1706 Candler Rd, replacing the previous Decatur site location at 1760 Candler Rd. With the addition of three pediatric practices, one women’s health and reproductive services practice, and two school-based health centers in 2023 and 2024, MedCura now operates a total of 13 clinical sites. Currently, the practice serves over 30,000 patients annually with more 72,000 visits across our thirteen clinic locations.

Today, MedCura Health continues to thrive and live its mission by offering the scope and quality of healthcare services it has come to be known for to those who need help most.
